HISTORY OF DFD
In September 2006, there was an opportunity for 20 fit men and women to participate in the Sarawak Regatta in Borneo. Mel and Wai were part of this team. Having trained over the summer in searing heat, they understood the commitment, passion and discipline required for the sport. It was through dragon boating that Mel and Wai first met and shared the same enthusiasm for the sport.
Coming back from Sarawak, Mel and Wai were so inspired by the racing competition and electrical atmosphere of a dragon boating festival. They wanted to go back for more! Dubai Flying Dragons was born in October 2006 thanks to the Club, Dragon Boats Alive (UAE) who have provided the a fertile platform for new teams to grow.
The name, Dubai Flying Dragons, was chosen to describe the feeling of when the boat is moving a great speed, the paddlers have a sensation that the boat is about to take off from the water. It is an elating and exhilarating feeling.
